Jewellery care

Sterling silver is made to last a lifetime, and a little care keeps it bright. Silver naturally darkens when it meets air, moisture and chemicals — that is tarnish, not damage, and it is always reversible.

Every listing tells you what a piece is made of and how it fastens, so start there: the material is what decides how a piece should be treated.

About sterling silver

Every 925Chandi piece is crafted in 925 sterling silver: 92.5% pure silver alloyed with 7.5% copper, which gives it the strength to hold a setting and keep its shape.

Worn often, silver stays brighter — the natural oils of skin and gentle friction slow tarnish. Left in a damp drawer, it darkens faster. Almost everything below follows from that.

Wearing your jewellery

  • Put jewellery on last, after perfume, hairspray, moisturiser and make-up have dried
  • Take it off first — before you undress, so nothing catches on fabric
  • Remove it before showering, swimming or bathing — chlorine, salt water and soap speed up tarnish
  • Take it off before exercise or anything that will make you sweat heavily
  • Keep it away from bleach, cleaning products, hand sanitiser and chlorine
  • Take earrings out before you sleep, and unfasten chains rather than pulling them over your head

Cleaning

  • Wipe a piece with a soft silver-polishing cloth after wearing it — that alone does most of the work
  • For light tarnish, polish gently with the cloth in straight strokes rather than circles
  • For a deeper clean, wash in lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap, rinse, and dry immediately and completely
  • Avoid toothpaste, baking soda and harsh abrasives — they scratch the surface of the silver
  • Oxidised pieces are darkened on purpose: wipe them gently and never polish or dip them
  • Never soak a piece with set stones; clean around a stone rather than scrubbing at it

Storing

  • Keep each piece in the anti-tarnish pouch or box it arrived in, separately — silver is soft, and pieces stored loose together scratch each other
  • Store somewhere dry and out of direct sunlight; a humid bathroom is the worst place in the house
  • Fasten chains before putting them away so they do not tangle
  • If you are putting a piece away for a long time, make sure it is completely dry first

What we do and do not promise

Every 925Chandi piece is genuine 925 sterling silver, as stamped and certified. Natural tarnish is not a defect; it is how silver behaves, and it polishes away.

We stand behind every piece being what its listing says it is, and reaching you in perfect condition.

An item that arrives damaged, faulty, incorrect or not as described is covered by the Return and refund policy. Returns can be requested within 2 days of delivery.

For polishing, resizing or repair, write to us with your order number and a photograph — we will tell you what is possible for your piece.

Something wrong on arrival?

Do not wear it. Photograph it and start a return from the order in your account — a piece that has been worn cannot be assessed the same way.

Sensitive skin

If you know a metal irritates your skin, read the material listed on the product page before ordering. We publish it on every piece precisely so this decision can be made before you buy rather than after.

We cannot advise on individual allergies or skin conditions, and nothing here is medical advice. If a piece causes a reaction, stop wearing it.

Still need help?

If anything about caring for a piece is unclear, or your situation is not covered here, please get in touch before you act on an assumption — it is almost always quicker to ask.

Write to [email protected] or call +91 00000 00000 (Monday to Saturday, 10:00 am – 7:00 pm IST).
